The BestiValley

[NB: This is still 2006 info.  2007 info will be here soon...]

Located between the village and the small pond near the campsite is The BestiValley, a green area devoted entirely to arts and crafts. New for this year is the chance to go Tree Climbing, giving you the opportunity to follow the festivities from the treetops.

Tree Climbing
Tree climbing is challenging and exciting! Making your way to the top of a 60ft tree gets you back to nature whilst giving you an enormous sense of achievement. You're given a safety briefing, harnesses and a hard hat, and then off you go! Once you have climbed as high as you personally can go, you can then choose to hang out in the canopy watching the Bandstand and other village activities and waving to your mates, before you come down by abseiling through the branches.

Willow Domes and Tunnels
Sculptor and basketmaker Tim Johnson will be weaving some special spaces for you to come and enjoy! Using locally grown withies, Tim combines traditional weaving techniques gleaned from the Isle of Wight basketmaking tradition combined with his fascination with the intricate nests of African Weaverbirds.

Wind Turbine Making and Demo
"How to Build a Wind Turbine" - full step-by-step instructions for building your own 'axial flux' alternator, from carving the blades to welding a frame. There will be full lists of materials, suppliers and tools for the job. The wind turbine on display will be powering the other exhibits!

Paint From Natural Ingredients
A demonstration from Tim Johnson of Quay Arts, with boards from Morey's to paint a Bestival collage!

Clay Modelling from Island Clay
Dawn Cambell will be making sculptures from Isle of Wight Clay... why not join in!

Bestival Bunting Making
The ladies will be making Bestival Bunting; choose, decorate and sew your triangle. Proceeds go to the new Chemotherapy Department at St Mary's Hospital, Newport.
